Frequently asked questions

Which audio formats can I convert?

You can load MP3, WAV, OGG, M4A/AAC or FLAC files and export to MP3, WAV or OGG. That covers the most common conversions, including compressing WAV/FLAC to MP3 or extracting a plain WAV.

What bitrate should I choose?

For MP3 and OGG, 192 or 256 kbps is a great balance of quality and size, while 320 kbps is near-transparent. WAV is uncompressed, so it has no bitrate setting. Higher bitrates mean larger files.

Will converting to MP3 lose quality?

MP3 and OGG are lossy, so re-encoding always discards some data, so pick a higher bitrate to minimize it. Converting to WAV is lossless but produces much larger files.

Are my audio files uploaded anywhere?

No. Conversion runs entirely in your browser using a local FFmpeg engine. Your files never leave your device and nothing is sent to a server.

Is there a file-size limit or speed concern?

The engine loads once (about 31 MB) then is cached. Audio files are usually small, so conversion is quick; very large files are held in browser memory and are best handled on a desktop browser.
