Frequently asked questions
How are words counted?
Words are counted by splitting your text on whitespace and ignoring empty segments, so runs of spaces, tabs and line breaks are handled correctly. The count updates live as you type or paste.
What is the difference between the two character counts?
One figure counts every character including spaces and line breaks, which matches most social and SMS limits. The other excludes whitespace so you can see how much actual content you have written.
How is reading time estimated?
Reading time assumes an average silent reading speed of about 200 words per minute. It is a rough guide for articles and posts, not an exact measure, since real reading speed varies by person and topic.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. All counting and analysis happens locally in your browser using JavaScript. Your text is never sent to a server, stored or logged, so it is safe to paste sensitive or unpublished content.
Does it work for languages other than English?
Yes for character, sentence and paragraph counts. Word counting relies on spaces, so it works well for space-separated languages; scripts without spaces between words may not be counted as expected.
