Frequently asked questions
Does muting reduce the video quality?
No. The video stream is copied through untouched and only the audio track is dropped, so the picture stays exactly as it was and the process is very fast.
Which formats are supported?
Standard containers like MP4, WebM and MOV work well. The output keeps the same container and video codec as your original file, just without any audio.
Can I get the audio back later?
Not from the muted file. The audio is removed. Keep your original if you might need the sound again, or use the Extract Audio tool first to save the audio separately.
Are my videos uploaded to a server?
No. Muting happens entirely in your browser with a local FFmpeg engine. Your video never leaves your device.
How fast is it and are there size limits?
Because the video isn't re-encoded, muting is nearly instant even for long clips. The file is held in browser memory, so extremely large videos are best processed on a desktop browser.
