Compress Video
Shrink video file size in your browser with an H.264 quality slider and optional 1080p/720p/480p cap. See before and after sizes. No upload, no watermark.
How it works
- 01Add a video file and note its current size.
- 02Pick a resolution cap (or keep original) and set the quality slider.
- 03Click Compress to re-encode to H.264 locally in your browser.
- 04Compare the before/after size and download the smaller video.
Frequently asked questions
How much smaller will my video get?
It depends on the source and your settings. Lowering the resolution cap and raising the quality (CRF) number both reduce size, often by 50-80%. The tool shows the before and after sizes so you can compare.
What does the quality slider (CRF) do?
CRF controls the H.264 quality/size trade-off. Lower values keep more quality but produce larger files; higher values compress harder. Around 23-28 is a good balance for most footage.
Will compressing reduce the resolution?
Only if you choose a resolution cap. Pick 1080p, 720p or 480p to downscale larger videos, or keep the original resolution and rely on the quality slider alone.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. Compression runs fully in your browser using a local FFmpeg engine. Your file never leaves your device and nothing is sent to a server.
Why is compression slower than other tools?
Re-encoding every frame to H.264 is CPU-intensive, and here it runs in your browser. Expect longer videos to take a while; smaller resolutions and shorter clips finish faster. Large files are best handled on a desktop browser.
